Our Leadership

Rich Brown

Pastor, Church Planter

The Lord first called Rich to the work of church planting in 2008 and soon put an unshakable desire in his heart to reach Downtown Lynchburg for King Jesus.

Rich is highly specialized in church planting, pastoring, teaching, developing new ministries, and evangelistic, apologetic, and civic engagement—with 20 years of creative and entrepreneurial leadership experience. He regularly preaches for our sister EPC churches on Sunday mornings, building a shared gospel ministry throughout our region that mutually supports and encourages each of our churches.

Rich holds pastoral degrees from Liberty University (Master of Divinity; BS: Religion) and Westminster Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry, ABD). He is also an author, having published books and articles on the life and ministry of J. Gresham Machen (Founder of WTS), church history, apologetics, and civil and religious liberty. His Dissertation at WTS, “Preventing Spiritual Abuse in Christ’s Church” is in development, to help shape healthy, flourishing church cultures in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and beyond.

Elders and Deacons

In this season of planting Downtown Presbyterian, we are actively training and equipping future Elders and Deacons to share the work of gospel ministry! We have several qualified candidates in the pipeline, and we look forward to growing together!

In the meantime, the New River Presbytery, our church planting network, our strategic, pastoral, and supervisory coaches, and our denomination each provide us with invaluable resources, support, leadership, and encouragement!
